Good morning, everyone!
We've spent 4 days recording anthropomorphs in Mystic Shelter - wrapped up yesterday with 39 completed. The students are excited, and are finding more details than had previously been recorded.
All students, staff, and volunteers really like swimming in the clear cold Devils River after a long day of hiking and documenting the rock art!
I've been helping Dr. Steve Black to familiarize himself with the regional archeology. So far we have found a couple of earth ovens, 5 or 6 stone alignments (wikiup rings?), and other types of features (none previously recorded). He is developing an appreciation for the difficulty in recognizing some of the more ephemeral types of sites out here!
Will start work on Cedar Springs Shelter about a mile up the Devils River today - more excitement in store at this large complex rockshelter.
Time to pack the truck and head for the Devils River!
